Express Entry is Canada’s efficient application management system used for the selection of new immigrants to Canada. Since its inception in 2015, this system has brought about significant changes, streamlining the process for various economic immigration programs for permanent residency in Canada.
In order to qualify for entry into the pool of applicants, one must qualify from one of the following federal programs for permanent residency: The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Trades (FSTP) Program, and even a portion of the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

How Express Entry works: A two step process
To begin your journey towards immigrating to Canada, the first step is to enter the Express Entry pool. The Canadian government ranks applicants in this pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This system assigns points based on specific criteria that are considered essential for the country’s national interest.
Applicants are evaluated on various factors, including age, education, work experience,job type and most importantly, English or French language proficiency. The higher the points you score, the better your chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency. Additional points can be obtained through a Provincial Nomination or a job offer from a Canadian employer. As long as you qualify for a federal program you can enter the pool. You do not need a job offer.
Applicants in the Express Entry pool are selected based on their Comprehensive Ranking Score or point assessment. During each invitation round, the government chooses a limited number of applications. The selection process starts from the top of the pool, which has applicants with the highest scores of 1,200 points, and continues until the quota for that round is met. The score at which the quota is reached is known as the low score cut-off.
If your application is selected, you will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)for permanent residency in Canada. Upon receiving an ITA, you have 60 days to submit your application for permanent residency. It’s crucial to ensure all the necessary documentation is prepared and submitted within the given timeframe.

Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP)

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the FSTP, you must:
- Meet the required language levels for speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience in a skilled trade within the last five (5) years.
- Meet the job requirements for your skilled trade as per the National Occupational Classification (NOC), except for needing a certificate of qualification.
- Possess either a valid job offer of full-time employment for at least one (1) year or a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority.
Organizational Structure of FSTP
The FSTP is categorized into the following groups based on the National Occupational Classification (NOC):
- Major Group 72 – Industrial, Electrical, and Construction Trades
- Major Group 73 – Maintenance and Equipment Operation Trades
- Major Group 82 – Supervisors and Technical Jobs in Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Related Production
- Major Group 92 – Processing, Manufacturing, and Utilities Supervisors and Central Control Operators
- Minor Group 632 – Chefs and Cooks
- Minor Group 633 – Butchers and Bakers
These groups cover a wide range of skilled trades, including industries like manufacturing, electrical work, construction, maintenance, equipment operation, natural resources, agriculture, processing, manufacturing, utilities, culinary arts, butchery, and baking.

Canadian Experience Class
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) offers skilled workers with Canadian work experience a pathway to become permanent residents. To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:
- Language Proficiency: Achieve the required language levels based on the National Occupation Classification (NOC):
- Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for TEER 0 or TEER 1 jobs or
- Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for TEER 2 or TEER 3 jobs
- Work Experience: Accumulate at least one year of Canadian skilled work experience in the last three years in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job classification.
Note that self-employment and work experience gained as a full-time student do not count towards the program.

Provincial Nomination Program (PNP)
